National Research Foundation selects Novell Vibe as Document and Records Management platform

After extensive tender, evaluation and pilot testing phases, the National Research Foundation has selected Novell Vibe as the platform for the implementation of their Electronic Records Management and Collaboration platform.

Novell Vibe and Microsoft Sharepoint was short-listed after an initial evaluation process.  After the initial pilot implementation, the end-users evaluated both solutions for ease of use and functionality to support their requirements.   Novell Vibe was ultimately selected as the solution of choice.

NETCB, a Novell Platinum Partner, was awarded the tender.  The key reasons for choosing Novell Vibe were the following:

  • End-user adoption is very quick
  • Flexibility and ease of building solutions
  • No software development customisation is required
  • Multi-platform support (Windows, Linux)
  • Mobile platform support (Andriod, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows)
  • MS Office Integration is extensive
  • Offline Document Editing capability
  • Simultaneous Document Co-editing in real time
  • Ease of creating forms and defining business processes

Novell Vibe is one of the fastest growing next generation collaboration platforms that provide a high degree of simplicity of use, yet it offers extensive customisation capabilities for those users that want to customise Novell Vibe.

Novell Vibe has become a de facto standard within many organisations in South Africa such as Pasco, eThekwini Electricity, Department of Sport and Recreation, Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, etc.

DCD upgrades to GroupWise 2012

DCD is an international manufacturing and engineering company providing products and solutions to the rail, defence, mining & energy and marine sectors.

DCD has been using Novell GroupWise since the 1990's on the Novell NetWare platform.  Now that NetWare Services continue to exist on Novell's Open Enterprise Server's platform that provides SuSE Linux Enterprise Server with the Novell Services included, it was time for DCD to migrate to this new stable and high performance platform.

In order to save significant expenses on Upgrade Licensing costs, DCD opted to purchase the Novell Open Workgroup Suite instead of acquiring the Open Enterprise Server licenses and GroupWise 2012 licenses separately.  This now also entitles DCD to use Novell ZENworks for Desktop Management and End-point Security, as well as to implement Novell Vibe for advanced business collaboration.

Once fully migrated, the new GroupWise 2012 environment will be hosted on a Microsoft Hyper-V platform.

The Emfuleni Local Municipality has selected NetIQ's Identity Management platform as the cornerstone of a security management framework.

As an initial phase NetIQ Identity Manager will be implemented as the foundation of all identity based security at the Municipality.  As part of this foundation User accounts will be managed from a central user account repository (Identity Vault or IDV) that includes provisioning of new accounts to Linux / Unix based systems including internet access, finance and email systems.

To add more value to the Identity Management foundation the NetIQ User Application module will be implemented for Password Self Services which will enable users to reset their own passwords through a challenge/response mechanism, thus reducing help desk calls and increasing productivity.
